Nurse Spotlight

Kearney Regional Medical Center

Stories of Florence Nightingale’s compassion, bravery, and leadership have shaped modern nursing and influenced and inspired millions. As we celebrate the 200th anniversary of her birth, we are honored to shine a light on today’s #NurseHeroes on the front lines by sharing some of their stories.

This is NurseName’s story.

“Treat the patient how you would want you or your family member treated.”

Describe why you chose to become a nurse

I wanted to help people.

Describe your most rewarding day on the job

My most rewarding day on the job is when I make a patient feel comfortable with what is happening no matter the circumstances.  When I take care of a patient that has had a miscarriage, and I connect with them, make them feel like they can talk to me about their feelings

Describe your most challenging day on job

It is also when a patient comes in needing a D&C due to a miscarriage.  I try to be available and not rush things with them.

Do you have any nurse hacks or lessons learned in the field you would like to share with others?

Treat the patient how you would want you or your family member treated.

What’s a favorite quote of yours?

“Tomorrow is another day.” – Scarlett O’Hara, Gone With the Wind

Anything else you’d like to share?

I like to sew, cross stitch, and read.

For those looking for a way to help others, is there a charity you suggest?

St. Jude Children’s Hospital. I always wanted to work in a pediatric children’s hospital.  I took care of 2 kids with cancer in my peds rotation in nursing school. They were amazing! I also took care of 4 or 5 kids with cancer when I worked for Dr. David Howe in Hasings years ago. Those kids were incredible in how they handled things!

Thank you for all you do, Deb!

Deb’s Nomination

The reason I am nominating Deb is because she always makes patients feel comfortable when they are getting ready for surgery. When I had my surgery here she made me feel welcomed and comfortable in a not very happy surgery that I was going through. She is very fun and outgoing and just always has a smile on her face!! I believe she deserves this award!
