Nurse Spotlight

Clarinda Regional Health Center

Stories of Florence Nightingale’s compassion, bravery, and leadership have shaped modern nursing and influenced and inspired millions. As we celebrate the 200th anniversary of her birth, we are honored to shine a light on today’s #NurseHeroes on the front lines by sharing some of their stories.

This is Jennifer’s story.

“Patients may forget your name but not how you made them feel.”

Describe why you chose to become a nurse

Since graduating from high school I had been interested in nursing but decided to be a pre school teacher. When I was in the hospital delivering my child I received such excellent, compassionate care from a nurse who inspired me to go to nursing school. 18 years a nurse and no regrets.

Describe your most rewarding day on the job

I love the fast pace, exceptional care, every case being different, all ages of patients in the emergency department. When our team can make a difference in someone’s life emergency is the most rewarding.

Describe your most challenging day on job

Living in a smaller community seeing your friends, family & acquaintances in a stressful situation during an emergency is difficult but being able to help & be there at their time of need is very rewarding.

Do you have any nurse hacks or lessons learned in the field you would like to share with others?

Patients may forget your name but not how you made them feel.
No matter how long you have been a nurse always remember how you felt the 1st day and treat the student nurse  with kindness. Be a mentor ♡. Be the nurse you would want as a patient.

What’s a favorite quote of yours?

Its a beautiful day to save lives!

For those looking for a way to help others, is there a charity you suggest?

American Red Cross because helping the Red Cross helps people affected by emergencies and disasters. I have personally seen lives saved by the blood provided. Every 8 minutes the Red Cross responds to an emergency.

Thank you for all you do, Jennifer!
