Nurse Spotlight

FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital

Stories of Florence Nightingale’s compassion, bravery, and leadership have shaped modern nursing and influenced and inspired millions. As we celebrate the 200th anniversary of her birth, we are honored to shine a light on today’s #NurseHeroes on the front lines by sharing some of their stories.

This is Shannon’s story.

“Discovering the true connection between yourself and your patient is priceless.”

Describe why you chose to become a nurse

We took care of family and grandparents my entire childhood. It was very common to spend our weekends serving the elderly and those in need in our community. I’ve always had the desire to support others in a time of need.

Describe your most rewarding day on the job

Everyday on the job is rewarding. I work with an amazing team of nurses and leaders that overcome challenges, promote teamwork, and provide excellent care to our patients. I love being able to connect with patients and talk about our families, life experiences, etc….

Describe your most challenging day on job

Everyday presents its challenges but all challenges are learning opportunities that offer me to opportunity to do something a different way the next time.

Do you have any nurse hacks or lessons learned in the field you would like to share with others?

Discovering the true connection between yourself and your patient is priceless.

What’s a favorite quote of yours?

“It is not how much you do but how much love you put into what you do that counts” Mother Teresa

Anything else you’d like to share?

I could never do what I do without the support of my family, my church family, friends and amazing team of co-workers.

For those looking for a way to help others, is there a charity you suggest?

JDRF – my niece was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 7. The diagnosis was a complete shocker to our family. She was so tiny and frail but educated herself at a very young age with the support of amazing parents. She learned to own diabetes as part of herself at a very young age and has been very dedicated and disciplined at caring for herself through the years.

Thank you for all you do, Shannon!

Shannon’s Nomination

I am so impressed with the tenacity that you have shown through all of this and in just a few words, you are the “true epitome of a transformational leader.” You deserve so much more recognition than this for all that you have done over the past 7+ weeks and continue to do it with positivity and grace.
